Weather Update

Current Forecast

Current forecasts point to blustery conditions throughout the weekend, with Saturday looking particularly windy: showers are possible and sustained on-shore gusts are expected to exceed 25 mph. Athletes will face the unique challenges posed by the coastal winds, making sea swimming, cycling and running segments demanding at times.

Saturday
💨 High 17° Lows 10° - Times of clouds and sun with a couple of showers; windy

Sunday
💨 High 17° Lows 9° - A passing morning shower or two; otherwise, breezy with times of clouds and sun

Possible impact on the programme

  • Saturday sea swim (Olympic): If wave height or wind chop exceeds what we deem safe to athletes and our volunteer sea marshals, we will replace the swim with a 5 km run, followed by the scheduled bike leg and the standard 10 km run (a run–bike–run duathlon format).

  • Junior events and Sunday racing: These are less likely to be adjusted, but routing may need to be tweaked to keep athletes and volunteers safe.

A final decision on the Saturday swim will be made no later than 09:00 Saturday after consultation with water-safety crews. Please monitor email, speak to volunteers at registration, and keep half an ear on the PA system on site.

Kit & equipment guidance

  • Clothing: Pack extra layers, a wind-proof jacket or gilet, and a towel or robe for pre-start warmth.

  • Wheels: Deep-section or full-disc wheels are not advised in gusty cross-winds; consider 40 mm or shallower rims.

  • Transition prep: Bring waterproof bags or covers to keep shoes and electronics dry if showers arrive.

  • Spectators: Umbrellas are likely to be impractical on the promenade—advise waterproofs and secure hats instead.

Final reminders

  1. Arrive with enough time to adjust equipment if conditions deteriorate.

  2. Heed marshal instructions and any revised course markings.

  3. Check emails and the website before leaving home for the latest status.

Thank you for your flexibility and readiness — our priority is to deliver a safe, fair, and enjoyable race for everyone. We’ll keep you informed every step (and gust) of the way.
